Job Overview: The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UNDP Innovation Team's efforts in the areas of innovations and urban transformation. This position is designed for individuals who are driven and curious, eager to explore new ways of doing development through research, horizon scanning, and design. The intern will work closely with various team members to develop knowledge products, support advocacy efforts, engage with communities, and assist in event organization. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that aim to reimagine development for the 21st century, particularly in the context of urban transformation and innovative financing. The intern will be involved in tasks that require creativity, critical thinking, and a collaborative spirit, ensuring that their contributions are impactful and aligned with the UNDP's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Innovation Team at IRH, the intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting the development of knowledge products such as tools and user guides, consolidating practices on system thinking, urban transformation, and alternative financing models.
Assisting in advocacy efforts by creating communication materials, drafting articles, blogs, and social media posts about regional and country-level activities.
Consolidating newsletters, maintaining user databases, and supporting the distribution of communication materials.
Conducting research and generating input for policy notes and briefs.
Mappingcommunity engagement efforts, identifying NGOs and other stakeholders, and understanding community needs and capabilities.
Assisting in the organization of events, including coordination support and logistical preparations.
Supporting design-related tasks, including inclusive and consultative design of products and processes.
Performing any other related tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the team.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or c) have graduated with a university degree in a relevant discipline within one year of graduation. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in systems thinking, innovative finance, human-centered design, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and AI. Experience in conducting advanced internet searches, working with multiple documentation sources, and knowledge of service design or related disciplines is advantageous. Familiarity with web-based management systems and data analysis is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree programme. Candidates who have recently graduated with a relevant degree are also eligible to apply, provided they can start the internship within one year of graduation. The focus should be on disciplines related to development, innovation, urban studies, or similar fields that align with the UNDP's mission.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in research, community engagement, or innovative design. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with advanced internet research, service design, and urbanization will be considered advantageous. Experience in ethnography or related fields will also be beneficial for this role, as it will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team's objectives.
Languages: Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic, French, Russian, and/or Turkish is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The internship is structured to last a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months. Interns are not considered staff members and will not represent UNDP in any official capacity. Financial stipends are provided according to UN rules and regulations, and any additional costs related to the internship must be covered by the intern or their sponsoring institution.
