Job Overview: The Focal Point Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the SDG Stories Initiative, which aims to engage young people aged 7 to 16 in the Arab region through storytelling related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This position involves identifying and establishing networks with schools in Lebanon, facilitating communication between various stakeholders, and organizing events that promote the SDGs. The assistant will work closely with the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and the ESCWA team to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative, which includes field visits to schools and capacity-building sessions for educators. The role requires a proactive approach to fostering collaboration and promoting the SDGs among students and teachers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Focal Point Assistant will be responsible for a range of duties, including: acting as the main liaison between ESCWA, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, and the beneficiary schools; identifying 30 schools to participate in the SDG Stories Initiative; advising schools and authorities on SDG-related activities; facilitating information flow between ESCWA and schools; participating in field visits; assisting in planning and organizing relevant events; exchanging expertise with the SDG Stories Team; and promoting good citizenship and global leadership among participants. The assistant will also be expected to contribute to the overall success of the initiative by ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a recognized first-level degree in education, sociology, psychology, social service, international relations, political science, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with NGOs, local governments, and international organizations on projects related to education, science, and culture is required. A current relevant position at the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO is also necessary, along with experience working with both public and private schools in Lebanon. Familiarity with UN processes and experience in similar roles will be considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first-level degree in a relevant field such as education, sociology, psychology, social service, international relations, or political science. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in relevant fields, particularly with NGOs, local governments, and international organizations. Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is a working language of ESCWA. Additionally, English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, so knowledge of these languages is beneficial but not required.
