Job Overview:
The SDGs Advocates position is designed to engage young individuals aged 7 to 16 in Lebanon with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through storytelling. The incumbent will be responsible for training educators on how to effectively use the 'ESCWA Stories' comic book series as an educational tool to raise awareness about the SDGs among students. This role involves not only the training of educators but also the facilitation of a collaborative process where students and educators work together to develop a sustainable development project proposal. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supervising the implementation of this project, ensuring that it aligns with the objectives of the SDG Stories Team at ESCWA. The position is expected to last for six months, during which the advocate will contribute to the broader mission of promoting sustainable development education in Lebanon.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SDGs Advocates will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
  • Participating in training sessions focused on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, particularly SDG 4.2, to prepare for training other educators.
  • Conducting training sessions for educators on how to utilize the 'ESCWA stories' comic book series (volumes I to V) as an educational resource to enhance student awareness of the United Nations' work and the SDGs.
  • Facilitating a collaborative process between students and educators to create a proposal for a student-led sustainable development project that can be implemented within the school environment.
  • Overseeing the execution of the sustainable project, ensuring close coordination with the SDG Stories Team at ESCWA to align with the organization's goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high-school diploma and are required to submit a copy of their educational degree as part of the application process. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Additionally, a minimum of two years of teaching experience in schools within Lebanon is mandatory. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage with students and educators effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high-school diploma. Candidates must provide proof of their educational qualifications when applying. This requirement ensures that the selected advocate has a foundational level of education that supports their ability to train others and engage with educational content effectively.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of teaching experience in schools in Lebanon is required for this position. This experience should ideally include direct interaction with students and educators, showcasing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively and facilitate learning in a classroom setting. The experience should also reflect a commitment to educational development and an understanding of sustainable development principles.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of ESCWA. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in all four areas of language use: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Additionally, knowledge of English and French is desirable, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A confident level of proficiency in two of the four areas for these languages is expected, which will enhance communication and collaboration within the organization.
