Job Overview:
The National Individual Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the development of the Subnational Children Climate Risk Index (CCRI) for Zimbabwe. This position involves collaborating closely with an International Consultant to build upon the Child-Centred Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessment produced in 202
  • The consultant will be responsible for updating the analysis of climate change impacts on children across various sectors, including WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), health, education, child protection, nutrition, and social protection. The consultant will map exposures, hazards, vulnerabilities, and capacities of children, providing a comprehensive analysis and creating a digital interactive map that overlays these factors. Coordination with UNICEF staff and stakeholders is essential to ensure cross-sectoral representation of related indicators. The consultant will also collect data sets, arrange consultations, and organize a validation workshop to finalize the CCRI.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the International Consultant to develop the Subnational Children Climate Risk Index (CCRI) for Zimbabwe.
  • Update the analysis of climate change impacts on children in various sectors.
  • Map exposures, hazards, vulnerabilities, and capacities of children.
  • Provide analysis and create a digital interactive map.
  • Coordinate inputs from UNICEF staff and liaise with the International Consultant.
  • Agree on indicators to include in the CCRI.
  • Collect data sets for the indicators.
  • Arrange consultations with key stakeholders.
  • Organize a validation workshop with the International Consultant. 1
  • Support the finalization of the CCRI. 1
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and engagement. 1
  • Develop a workplan and define methodology for the assignment. 1
  • Conduct desk reviews and collect data sets for identified indicators. 1
  • Provide recommendations on programming design for different sectors. 1
  • Conduct training sessions for national partners on data infrastructure maintenance.

Required Qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree in environmental/climate change studies, development studies, or related social science fields.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in management and analysis of quantitative data.
  • In-depth knowledge of disaster risk management, climate risk management in Zimbabwe, and children's rights.
  • Experience in researching and preparing analytical reports.
  • Familiarity with mapping/GIS and quantitative/qualitative analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of local languages is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as environmental studies, climate change studies, development studies, or other related social science disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of climate change and its impacts on children.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the management and analysis of quantitative data. This experience should encompass work related to climate change, disaster risk management, and child rights, demonstrating a strong understanding of the issues at hand.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of a local language of the duty station is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to be a national position, focusing on local expertise and engagement. The contract duration and specific terms of employment will be outlined in the consultancy agreement. The consultant will be responsible for their tax liabilities and must ensure that all necessary visa and health insurance requirements are met for the duration of the contract. Selected candidates will undergo rigorous background checks, including verification of academic credentials and employment history.
