Job Overview:
The Finance Support position is crucial for advancing the mission's financial management objectives. The role involves providing dedicated support to the coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Finance Coordinator and finance staff, with a primary focus on enhancing financial efficiency, strategic decision-making, and fostering collaborative partnerships. The Finance Support will utilize organizational tools, conduct monthly financial health assessments, and implement capacity-building initiatives to ensure the effective oversight of financial processes. This position is pivotal in promoting a culture of continuous improvement and expertise within the finance teams across all mission bases, ultimately contributing to the organization's financial success and mission fulfillment. The role will also involve redefining operational models and geographical scopes in response to the evolving humanitarian landscape in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Effective Utilization of SI Tools: Promote the effective use of SI financial tools (AB, BFU, SAGA, Shared Cost App) across all levels. Oversee monthly Shared Cost Allocation for the Syria Mission and optimize tool usage to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency. Conduct monthly financial health checks and analysis, monitor financial indicators (e.g., exchange rates), and support forecasting and strategic financial planning. Verify budget planning to reduce financial and project risks.
  • Capacity Building: Facilitate continuous learning and development initiatives for finance teams across all mission bases, including the Coordination office. Implement training programs to enhance the financial acumen of the teams and support the onboarding of new coordination finance staff in Damascus.
  • Partnership Management: Maintain effective financial collaboration with partners, organize financial training sessions based on partners’ needs, conduct due diligence for new partners, and support evaluations of existing ones. Develop and apply financial management SOPs and guidelines, provide financial input for proposals and budget revisions, and consolidate partner budgets for new grants.
  • Financial Process Oversight: Ensure financial processes comply with internal standards and donor regulations, lead budget development with coordination and base teams, and support proposals and reporting during high workloads. Help define and implement mission-wide financial policies and enforce internal controls across bases to ensure compliance.
  • Support to Field Offices Implementations: Support base teams in implementing financial processes, assist field finance teams with troubleshooting and guidance, and provide coverage during Finance/Admin Manager absences.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar or related role, demonstrating a strong understanding of financial management in humanitarian contexts.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to manage financial processes effectively within the organization.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience working in international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and at least 5 years in a similar or related role. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of financial management in humanitarian settings and for effectively supporting the finance team in achieving the organization's objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Proficiency in Arabic is preferred, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of financial collaboration in the region.

  • The role is based in Damascus, with initial operations starting in Amman. The gross monthly salary starts from €2,475, which includes a base salary of €2,250 and a 10% paid leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with accommodation and round-trip travel covered by SI. Employees are entitled to one week of rest every three months, with a USD 850 break allowance, and one rest day for each month worked. The position includes a comprehensive health insurance package covering medical, surgical, dental, and ophthalmological care, as well as repatriation and coverage for war risks. Costs for essential vaccinations and antimalarial treatment are also reimbursed. Living conditions include guesthouse accommodation, internet access, and opportunities for social engagement.
