Job Overview: The EVAWG Capacity Development Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting training, capacity development, and technical assistance across various outcome areas and countries involved in the Pacific Partnership Phase II. This position is vital for enhancing the capabilities of partners and stakeholders, including Pacific Island governments and civil society organizations. The specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing training programs that focus on primary prevention and response to violence against women and girls, ensuring that interventions are survivor-centered and adhere to established best practices. The role also involves contributing to the development of programmatic interventions based on insights gained from training and capacity-building efforts, thereby fostering a sustainable approach to capacity development in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Providing training and capacity development to partners and stakeholders, co-designing and implementing the UN Women Pacific Partnership capacity development strategy.
Designing and delivering training sessions focused on primary prevention and response to violence against women and girls.
Actively participating in national task forces and working groups to develop quality training materials.
Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key partners and contributing to resource mobilization strategies.
Supporting the development of communities of practice and collaboration across prevention activities.
Documenting outcomes and best practices from training initiatives and contributing to programmatic monitoring and evaluation.
Representing UN Women in national and regional meetings as required.
Adapting to emerging responsibilities as discussed with the EVAWG Technical Specialist.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international development, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of EVAWG programming and policy-making, particularly in the context of the Pacific region. Additionally, advanced skills in relationship management and experience in providing technical assistance to diverse stakeholders are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, or international development. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be considered. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality and violence against women and girls.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience at the national or international level in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of EVAWG interventions is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree must have at least 7 years of relevant experience. Experience in coordinating with government agencies or donors, as evidenced by participation in multi-stakeholder initiatives, is also necessary. Additionally, at least 1 year of professional experience working in the Pacific region is required, and familiarity with the UN System is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in a language from one of the Pacific Island Countries and Territories, such as Fiji, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, or Vanuatu. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months, and the consultant will be based in the Multi-Country Office in Suva, Fiji. Travel to programming countries is expected, and all travel costs will be covered by UN Women. The consultant's performance will be evaluated based on various criteria, including timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, accuracy, and quality of deliverables. Payments will be made monthly upon submission and approval of outputs, timesheets, and certification of satisfactory performance by the Technical Specialist.
