Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in the Programme Support Office (PSO) of UNRWA's Jordan Field Office (JFO). The intern will work under the supervision of the Data Management and Reporting Officer, contributing to various data management tasks that are crucial for the effective functioning of the office. The intern will be involved in data collection and analysis, ensuring the reliability and adequacy of data presented in reports. This role will also include developing SQL queries for data integration and modeling, as well as maintaining data quality and metadata management. The intern will gain practical experience in building interactive dashboards using Power BI, which will enhance their data visualization skills. Additionally, the intern will support project and programme management by assisting in the development of work plans and budgets, and will participate in meetings to help coordinate efforts within the team. This internship is designed to provide valuable insights into the operations of UNRWA and the challenges faced in managing data for protracted refugee situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting data collection from various Programme Offices and relevant units; undertaking research to identify suitable qualitative and quantitative data; ensuring the adequacy and reliability of data presented in reports; developing and executing SQL queries to extract, join, and aggregate data from multiple sources; assisting in designing or updating basic database schemas and data models; defining and implementing data-quality rules; documenting metadata and maintaining data dictionaries; building, maintaining, and optimizing interactive dashboards in Power BI; applying data-visualization best practices; supporting the strengthening of Project/Programme Cycle Management; developing and updating work plans, budgets, and monitoring templates; organizing and coordinating meetings; and performing other related duties as required to contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team and projects.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be current students or recent graduates (within one year of graduation) with a bachelor’s degree or higher in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field. While professional work experience is not required, any prior experience will be considered an advantage. Excellent technical skills are essential, including proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (especially pivot tables and advanced formulas), as well as SQL. Familiarity with Power BI or similar BI platforms (such as Tableau or QlikView) is also required. Additionally, applicants should have an understanding of database design and schema concepts, data-quality frameworks, and metadata management, along with exposure to data-visualization best practices.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of data management and analysis that the internship entails.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates who have prior experience in data management, analysis, or related fields will have an advantage. The internship is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting, particularly within the context of international organizations.

Languages:
A strong command of spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication within the context of UNRWA's operations in Jordan.

This internship is unpaid, and all costs associated with participation, including travel, accommodation, and living expenses, must be borne by the intern. Interns are required to have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage prior to commencing the internship. The internship is not intended to lead to further employment with UNRWA, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
