Job Overview:
The Durable Solutions Assistant position is a vital role within UNHCR's operations in Lebanon, particularly in the context of the ongoing refugee crisis. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing the Inter-Agency Voluntary Return Action Plan, which aims to facilitate the safe, dignified, and voluntary return of up to 400,000 Syrian refugees in 2025 and an additional 200,000 in 202
  • This role involves conducting individual counseling sessions with Syrian refugees to inform them about the conditions in Syria and the various voluntary return programs available. The Durable Solutions Assistant will also conduct pre-assessments to identify and refer refugees interested in returning to partners for legal assistance, ensuring that they have access to necessary civil documentation and support services. The position requires a strong understanding of protection principles and the ability to work closely with various teams within UNHCR to ensure timely and effective support for refugees. The incumbent will also engage in community-based activities and initiatives related to durable solutions and return, highlighting the importance of collaboration and communication with affected communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Durable Solutions Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in identifying and registering candidates for voluntary repatriation and local integration; preparing documentation for their return in accordance with established SOPs; participating in the identification of resettlement needs of refugees; updating electronic databases related to resettlement, voluntary repatriation, and local integration; processing documentation to ensure timely delivery of required documents for persons of concern; preparing statistical and ad-hoc reports to share accurate information with relevant offices and partners; entering information into databases in line with SOPs; supporting the identification and management of risks; and performing other related duties as required. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to navigate complex operational environments while maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Durable Solutions Assistant position must possess a strong understanding of UNHCR's protection principles and policies, as well as technical skills and experience in protection case management. Good interpersonal skills are essential for working effectively with forcibly displaced populations, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners from diverse backgrounds is crucial. Previous experience in protection case management, including counseling and conducting assessments, is highly desirable.
