Job Overview: The Deputy Regional Representative (DRR) plays a crucial role in supporting the director-general" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative (ADG/RR) in the leadership, management, administration, and supervision of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP). This position involves strategic planning and foresight, where the DRR assists in formulating a clear vision and regional strategic direction based on corporate guidance. The DRR is responsible for overseeing the Decentralized Offices network, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment with the regional strategy. The role also includes building partnerships and advocating for FAO's strategic goals, engaging with various stakeholders, and representing FAO in international and regional forums. The DRR must ensure operational diligence, risk management, and accountability while promoting a culture of respect and transparency within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy Regional Representative (DRR) has a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Assisting the ADG/RR in strategic planning and foresight, contributing to corporate planning and budgetary processes, and formulating quarterly budgetary performance reports.
Coordinating and overseeing the preparation of progress reports to FAO Governing Bodies and building effective collaboration with member representatives and senior authorities.
Managing and providing oversight for the Decentralized Offices network, ensuring alignment of resources and capabilities with the regional strategy.
Promoting effective regional partnerships and developing a communications strategy to advocate for FAO's strategic goals.
Supporting UN inter-agency coordination and collaboration, ensuring alignment of FAO’s activities with ongoing UN reforms.
Maintaining a sound system of internal controls and overseeing the execution of regional activities to ensure optimal results and value for money.
Managing human resources effectively, ensuring the right skill mix is in place, and promoting an inclusive working environment.
Supporting resource mobilization efforts and collaborating with senior officers to define a regional strategy for resource mobilization.
Performing specific additional functions as assigned by the ADG/RR based on regional needs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as social sciences, public policy or administration, agriculture, forestry, or fisheries. They should have a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant managerial and professional experience in fields related to FAO's mandate, including experience at the international level. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of English (proficiency – level C) and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish). Knowledge of a second official language relevant to the region of assignment is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in areas pertinent to the work of the FAO, such as social sciences, public policy or administration, agriculture, forestry, or fisheries.
