Job Overview:
The Financial Data Automation and Business Intelligence (BI) Developer position at UNU is designed for a results-driven individual with proven expertise in Power BI and Power Automate, alongside a solid background in financial management. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Finance Officer and will play a crucial role in enhancing UNU’s internal controls. This will be achieved by developing performance monitoring dashboards and improving operational oversight across UNU’s global offices. The Developer will also lead the automation of key business processes, which is essential for increasing efficiency in UNU’s operations. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to synthesize complex datasets into clear insights, ensuring that the organization can make informed decisions based on accurate data.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Developer's responsibilities include designing and developing interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that monitor operational activities, assess the effectiveness of internal controls, and track key performance indicators. The role involves identifying, integrating, and preparing data from multiple sources into cohesive reporting frameworks while establishing data governance standards to ensure the consistency, accuracy, and reliability of outputs. The Developer will implement governance protocols for the BI platform, including access controls and documentation standards to maintain data integrity and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role requires automating recurring operational workflows, leveraging seamless integration with business applications to enhance efficiency. Collaboration with business process owners is essential to gather requirements, identify relevant data sources, and deliver tailored reporting and automation solutions that strengthen internal control compliance. The Developer will also promote self-service analytics and encourage effective utilization of Power BI tools across the organization, providing training and documentation for future maintenance of the created dashboards and automated processes.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in Finance, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related discipline. They should have at least 2 years of working experience in developing operational dashboards and data visualization, with hands-on implementation of low-code/no-code automation using Power Platform apps. Prior experience with Oracle systems is considered an asset. Proficiency in Power BI and Power Query (M, DAX) is required, along with skills in report design, data modeling, and data transformation. Familiarity with SharePoint data integration, embedding Power BI reports, workflow automation, access management, and documentation is also necessary. Strong attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to synthesize complex datasets into clear insights are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently, possess solid project management capabilities, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across cultures. A good business and financial acumen with a solid understanding of finance operations, internal controls, financial reporting, and basic accounting principles is also required.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree in Finance, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of financial data management and business intelligence.
Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant working experience, specifically in developing operational dashboards and data visualization. Candidates should have hands-on experience with low-code/no-code automation using Power Platform apps, which is essential for the role. Experience with Oracle systems is advantageous but not mandatory. The level of experience should also include proficiency in Power BI and Power Query, as well as a solid understanding of financial management principles.
Languages:
Professional level fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official working language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
Additional Notes:
The successful candidate will be engaged under a Consultant Contract (CTC) and may not provide services for more than twenty-four (24) months within a thirty-six (36) month period. UNU does not sponsor a working visa for this position, and consultants do not hold international civil servant status. The position is remote and full-time, requiring the consultant to work 20 days per month. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and based on a daily rate submitted as part of the application process. This contract does not entitle the consultant to paid annual leave or sick leave. Should mission travel be required, UNU will cover travel costs, subject to prerequisites such as medical clearance and security clearance. The expected start date for this position is immediate.
