Job Posting Organization:
The Agrifood Economics and Policy Division (ESA) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is dedicated to conducting economic research and policy analysis aimed at transforming agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. Established to support better production, nutrition, and environmental outcomes, ESA plays a crucial role in providing evidence-based support for national, regional, and global policy processes. The division is responsible for flagship publications such as The State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA) and The State of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI). The Office of Emergencies and Resilience (OER) within FAO focuses on preparing for and responding to food and agricultural threats and crises, ensuring effective coordination and support for humanitarian efforts. The IPC Global Support Unit (GSU) operates under FAO, coordinating IPC normative development and capacity-building support worldwide, governed by a coalition of major agencies.

Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant for IPC Communication involves engaging experts to support the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative, which aims to enhance decision-making through improved food security and nutrition analysis. The consultant will work full-time for a duration of up to 11 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and resource availability. The role requires strategic support for the implementation of the IPC Communication Strategy, ensuring alignment with the IPC Global Strategic Programme. The consultant will coordinate communication activities, develop communication products, and engage with media to promote IPC findings effectively. This position is critical for enhancing the visibility and impact of IPC communications in the context of food security and nutrition crises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: providing strategic support for the IPC Communication Strategy; coordinating the planning and implementation of communication activities; rolling out IPC communication tools and guidelines; delivering support for IPC analyses; conceptualizing and producing communication products; managing media engagement initiatives; implementing training initiatives for technical experts and communicators; overseeing IPC's online presence; and ensuring compliance with IPC and FAO communication standards. The consultant will also perform other related duties as required, ensuring that all communication materials adhere to established guidelines and standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Communications, Journalism, International Studies, or a closely related field. They should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in communication, including the development and implementation of communication strategies, messaging, and media engagement. A strong understanding of corporate communications and public relations is essential, along with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences. Experience in managing or coordinating teamwork and familiarity with relevant software packages will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Communications, Journalism, International Studies, or a closely related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication in the context of food security and nutrition, as well as for developing effective strategies and products.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the communication field, particularly in developing and implementing communication strategies and engaging with media. Experience in corporate communications, public relations, and producing information products in various formats is highly desirable. Work experience in multiple locations or areas of work, especially in field positions, is also preferred.

Languages:
A working knowledge (level C) of English, French, or Spanish is mandatory, along with a limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other two languages. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the IPC initiative and with various stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time assignment based in Rome, with a duration of up to 11 months. The possibility of extension is contingent upon satisfactory performance and resource availability. The role may require limited travel.
