Job Overview: The Driver position at FAO involves providing transportation services for the Country Office staff and visitors. The role is crucial for ensuring that FAO staff can fulfill their official duties effectively by transporting them to various locations within the country. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition, and performing minor repairs when necessary. This position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to FAO regulations, especially in the event of an accident. The Driver will also assist with administrative tasks related to travel and logistics, making this role integral to the smooth operation of the Country Office.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following tasks: driving office vehicles to transport FAO staff on official duties to various locations; meeting official personnel at the airport and assisting with hotel check-ins; logging official trips in and out of the country; ensuring the day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including monitoring fuel consumption and keeping a log sheet; performing minor repairs on the vehicle and ensuring it is clean and tidy at all times; checking service dates and making necessary bookings for vehicle servicing; reporting any vehicle malfunctions; following FAO rules and regulations in the event of an accident; assisting with the distribution of office mail and packages; delivering and collecting visa applications at embassies; assisting the Procurement and Logistics section with gathering information on quotations and collecting orders; preparing local and international Travel Authorizations for approval; making administrative arrangements for the Country Office; and performing any other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: secondary school education; a clean driving license; a minimum of 5 years of driving experience in an office environment; and a working knowledge of English. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of Namibia. FAO core competencies include a focus on results, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a secondary school education. FAO emphasizes that only higher educational qualifications obtained from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) will be considered.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of driving experience, particularly in an office environment. This experience is essential to ensure that the Driver can navigate the responsibilities of the role effectively and safely.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's profile for this position.
