Job Overview: The Nutrition Officer position is critical in addressing the nutritional challenges faced by children and women in Guatemala, where malnutrition is a significant issue. The officer will provide professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for nutrition programs/projects within the Country Programme. This includes development planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of results. The role requires a solid technical foundation and practical experience to support the Government of Guatemala in preventing and reducing malnutrition. The Nutrition Officer will be involved in various activities such as program development and planning, management, monitoring, and delivery of results, as well as providing technical and operational support for program implementation. Networking and partnership building, along with innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building, are also key components of this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the development and planning of nutrition programs/projects, ensuring alignment with national strategies and UNICEF's goals.
Manage and monitor program implementation, ensuring timely delivery of results and adherence to quality standards.
Provide technical and operational support to program implementation, including training and capacity building for local partners and stakeholders.
Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability.
Facilitate knowledge management and innovation within the nutrition sector, promoting best practices and lessons learned.
Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of program progress, preparing reports and recommendations for improvement.
Engage in advocacy efforts to promote nutrition initiatives and policies at local and national levels.
Collaborate with other sectors, such as health and education, to ensure a holistic approach to child well-being.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or another health-related science field.
A minimum of two years of professional experience in a developing country in areas such as nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care.
Fluency in Spanish and English is required, with knowledge of another official UN language or a local language considered an asset.
Experience in health/nutrition program/project development within a UN system agency or organization is desirable.
Familiarity with emergency contexts and developing country work experience is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in relevant fields such as nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or another health-related science field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition-related issues and developing effective interventions.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in a developing country, specifically in areas related to nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care. Languages: Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
