Job Overview:
The position of 3D Mechanical Designer-Drafter at CERN is tailored for experienced mechanical drafters with a strong background in 3D design. The role is situated within the Infrastructure Section of the Site Asset Management Group, where the successful candidate will contribute to high-profile projects that involve cutting-edge infrastructure and facility design. The position requires expertise in HVAC, sanitary, and electrical activities, and the candidate will be responsible for creating and managing 2D/3D designs using software such as REVIT and AUTOCAD. The role also involves team management, project design coordination, and ensuring the consistency and interoperability of CAD/BIM tools. The candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating project phases from feasibility to execution, working closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure successful project outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the 3D Mechanical Designer-Drafter include:
  • Drafting: Create, develop, and manage 2D/3D designs on REVIT and AUTOCAD for existing and new HVAC, sanitary, and electrical installations.
  • Team Management and Technical Support: Organize and oversee design activities, monitor progress, enhance team skills, and provide technical support in HVAC, sanitary, and electrical domains.
  • Project Design and Coordination: Lead project phases from feasibility to execution, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external consultants to ensure project success.
  • BIM Development: Ensure CAD/BIM tools are consistent, interoperable, and up to date, supporting the evolution of standards and procedures with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Scans and Point Cloud Management: Produce, manage, and integrate 3D scans and point clouds into design processes.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders to resolve conflicts and address issues constructively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in HVAC, sanitary, and electrical engineering design or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have extensive experience in the development and design of tertiary and industrial buildings, proven experience in using Revit and AutoCAD, and experience in team management. Familiarity with 3D scans and a background in civil engineering building trades are also essential qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field such as HVAC, sanitary, or electrical engineering design. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should have a solid understanding of building construction, consolidation, and renovation, as well as design principles for HVAC, sanitary, and electrical installations in industrial and civil buildings.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the development and design of tertiary and industrial buildings. This includes proven experience in using design software such as Revit and AutoCAD, as well as experience in team management and working with 3D scans. A background in civil engineering building trades is also advantageous, as it provides a comprehensive understanding of the construction and design processes involved in the role.
