Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and graduates who have a keen interest in migration-related issues and who are eager to contribute to IOM's work. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant work experience. The programme aims to provide interns with practical experience in areas relevant to IOM's activities, while also supporting their academic and professional development. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced professionals, gaining insights into the operations of the Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) and the broader IOM framework. The intern will assist in various tasks that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of private sector engagement efforts in the UK, including mapping prospects, documenting best practices, and supporting fundraising initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall goals of the Private Sector Partnerships Division. Key responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to the development of donor outreach and engagement strategies to strengthen relationships with donors and strategic partners.
  • Assisting in identifying and mapping new private sector prospects and supporting efforts to enhance existing partnerships.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to facilitate effective communication and engagement with private sector stakeholders.
  • Helping coordinate initiatives that highlight IOM’s thematic expertise to the private sector community.
  • Documenting and sharing best practices related to private sector engagement across various thematic areas.
  • Supporting the monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the private sector partner pipeline, including data compilation and drafting reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting in planning and coordinating events, donor roundtables, and other engagement activities aimed at deepening partnerships.
  • Drafting donor briefs, profiles, and bios in preparation for meetings and events.
  • Conducting research, drafting concept notes, and compiling relevant information to support fundraising initiatives. 1
  • Maintaining and updating donor records using CRM software (Salesforce), ensuring accurate tracking of donor activities. 1
  • Performing other administrative tasks as needed to support private sector engagement efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and a keen attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to IOM's values of inclusion, integrity, professionalism, courage, and empathy, as these competencies will be assessed during the selection process.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Business Administration, or Communications is required for this internship position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of migration and the role of private sector partnerships in addressing migration challenges.

Experience:
The internship is aimed at individuals with less than two years of relevant working experience. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently, showcasing strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Previous experience in administrative roles, fundraising, or engagement with private sector stakeholders will be considered an asset, but is not mandatory.

Languages:
English is the mandatory language for this role, as it is required for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. IOM's official languages also include French and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be considered an advantage during the selection process. Candidates' language skills will be evaluated through written and/or oral assessments as part of the selection process.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of the candidate's medical fitness for appointment, as well as verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment. IOM does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
