Job Overview: This internship is situated within the Ecosystems Division of the UN Environment Programme, focusing on the implementation of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). The primary aim of this internship is to assist in fulfilling the requests from the UN General Assembly and UNEA-4 regarding the Decade's implementation. Interns will work under the supervision of designated staff members, engaging in a full-time capacity for five days a week. The role encompasses both programme support and communication support, requiring interns to contribute to various activities that facilitate the establishment and management of partnerships, organization of meetings, and communication efforts related to the Decade's initiatives. This position is unpaid, emphasizing the importance of gaining experience and contributing to significant environmental efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including: A. Programme and Partnerships Support: - Assisting in the establishment and management of partnerships for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, including due diligence processes and developing tool kits and guidelines. - Organizing internal and external meetings and outreach events, preparing necessary background materials, and writing reports. - Supporting the daily communication and official correspondence of the UN Decade core team. - Managing the official email for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and ensuring quality control. - Providing administrative, project management, and information management support. B. Communication Support: - Assisting with the management and quality control of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration’s website. - Compiling and distributing the UN Decade’s monthly newsletter. - Coordinating translation needs for communication materials. C. Carrying out additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: - Enrollment in a graduate school programme focused on Environmental Sciences, Environmental Policy, Communications and Public Relations, International Relations, Law, Development Studies, or related fields. - Enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level). - Graduation with a university degree. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Applicants must also be able to provide proof of their qualifications.
Educational Background: Candidates should be pursuing qualifications in areas that significantly contribute to the responsibilities of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration Unit. This includes being computer literate in standard software applications, possessing good report writing skills, and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. A commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter and an interest in the work of the United Nations are also important.
