Job Overview:
The Market Development Manager position is crucial for maximizing results from private sector fundraising and broader engagement with the private sector in line with UNICEF’s global private sector resource mobilization strategy. The role involves working closely with the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFR) Country Offices to develop and implement tailored private sector strategies that align with the unique conditions of each country. The post holder will engage with various private sector audiences, including individuals, businesses, major donors, foundations, and faith-based organizations, to enhance fundraising efforts and influence. This position is integral to driving innovation in fundraising practices and ensuring that the PSFR operations are equipped with the necessary tools and strategies to achieve their goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Market Development Manager include:
  • Maximizing results from private sector fundraising by linking Private Sector Plans with country programme planning processes.
  • Acting as a focal point for the strategic development of private sector fundraising for LAC’s nine PSFR operations.
  • Advising on optimal strategic portfolios for countries, including audience selection, outcomes, strategies, and channels.
  • Guiding and supporting Country Offices (COs) in developing and updating Private Sector Plans (PSPs) and ensuring alignment with the global resource mobilization strategy.
  • Driving investment in fundraising to optimize income growth, including retention of fundraising income and allocation of PFP investment funds.
  • Monitoring and evaluating PSFR performance of COs, identifying strengths and areas for improvement through detailed analysis of annual results.
  • Ensuring compliance with PFP’s reporting requirements and maintaining robust monitoring and analysis systems.
  • Transmitting global PFP strategic direction and policy to COs and supporting its application in the regional context.
  • Driving fundraising innovation and sharing best practices across PSFR COs and the global network. 1
  • Managing risks associated with private sector fundraising and ensuring compliance with due diligence policies. 1
  • Establishing clear performance objectives and providing guidance to supervisees to achieve their goals.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • An advanced degree (master’s) in international development, finance, economics, public or business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field combined with an additional 2 years of relevant experience may be considered in place of an advanced degree.
  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in private sector fundraising across various modalities, including Individual Giving, Business, Philanthropy, and Foundations.
  • Experience leading a private sector fundraising operation is a strong advantage, as is experience in different countries/regions.
  • Knowledge of country office operations and programme planning processes is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in a relevant field such as international development, finance, economics, public or business administration. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, combined with additional relevant experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience, particularly in private sector fundraising. Experience in leading fundraising operations and familiarity with various modalities of fundraising is essential. Additionally, experience working in different countries or regions will be considered a strong advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, along with intermediate proficiency in Spanish. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered an asset, particularly for candidates with experience in developing countries or emergency contexts.
