Job Overview:
The Driver position is based at the Masvingo Field Office and is crucial for providing safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and commodities. The role involves not only driving but also ensuring compliance with UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations. The Driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, keeping accurate logs, and reporting any mechanical issues. Additionally, the Driver will assist with airport pickups and customs formalities for visitors, ensuring a smooth transition to their destinations. This position requires a high level of responsibility, alertness, and good judgment in planning routes, as well as the ability to interact professionally with colleagues and partners in the field. The Driver will also perform basic office tasks when necessary, contributing to the overall administrative support of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following key accountabilities:
  • Provide safe transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring compliance with UN safety and security rules.
  • Assist with airport pickups and customs formalities for visitors.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle log books and report on mechanical status to ensure efficient vehicle use.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations.
  • Follow established rules for field deliveries and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Coordinate with local authorities to facilitate vehicle movements.
  • Perform basic office tasks such as filing and photocopying when required, ensuring administrative support to clients. The Driver is expected to carry out driving assignments safely and efficiently, maintain a professional relationship with colleagues and partners, and demonstrate good judgment in route planning.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the completion of secondary school education and formal driver’s training, along with a valid driver’s license. A defensive driver’s license is highly preferred. Candidates must have a demonstrated safe driving record and at least two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Knowledge of driving rules, local roads, and security issues is essential, as well as familiarity with radio, email, and other communication applications. Skills in minor vehicle repairs and experience with various vehicle types are also important for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education and undergone formal driver training. A valid driver’s license is mandatory, and a defensive driver’s license is preferred to ensure safety and compliance with driving regulations.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of driving experience, particularly in an international context such as working with NGOs, embassies, or UN agencies. A proven safe driving record is essential, along with experience in operating a variety of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Familiarity with local driving conditions and regulations is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language used at the duty station is mandatory. Additionally, proficiency in the local language is required to facilitate effective communication and assistance in the community.
