Job Overview:
The Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Assistant position within FHI 360’s Crisis Response Department is crucial for managing humanitarian activities at the field level. The role primarily involves supporting the Safety and Security Manager in overseeing programmatic aspects of the response. The incumbent will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of all program staff and activities conducted from the field office. This includes leading the preparation of task-based risk assessments, establishing and maintaining relationships with local security agencies, and acting as a liaison between senior security professionals and community services. The Safety and Security Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining communication with authorities and international institutions regarding security matters, and will serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team addressing non-routine security issues such as evacuations and medical emergencies. The position requires a proactive approach to evaluating security measures and ensuring the availability of emergency resources, as well as conducting routine security surveys and inspections of facilities. The role is essential for fostering a culture of security within the organization and ensuring that all staff members are informed about security matters affecting their safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safety and Security Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the preparation of task-based risk assessments; establishing and maintaining close relations with host community security agencies; acting as a liaison between senior security professionals and community services; maintaining dialogue with authorities and international institutions regarding security; serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team on non-routine security matters; supporting the evaluation of air, land, and evacuation routes; ensuring the availability of emergency communications systems; managing and supervising all FHI 360 guards; conducting routine security surveys of office and residential areas; conducting physical security inspections of facilities; ensuring that staff members are informed on security matters; investigating and preparing reports on incidents; implementing policies and procedures for crisis situations; and assisting in creating a security culture within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
The desired qualifications for the Safety and Security Assistant position include an Associate Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as security management, information management, business administration, political/social science, or international relations with a focus on security management. Candidates should have 0-2 years of progressively responsible experience in investigation, military, police, or security management, preferably in a police or military context. Previous experience in a similar role with another organization is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate fluency in the local language (Amharic) and possess excellent English language skills. A good knowledge of the local context and an unbiased analytical approach are also essential.

Educational Background:
