Job Overview: The Global People Communications Lead will play a pivotal role in driving strategic internal communications across WRI’s global People function. Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the individual will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that position WRI as a global employer of choice. This role involves strengthening the organization's brand identity across regional and country offices, shaping a cohesive People brand, and leading communications on significant people-related initiatives such as the Workday rollout. The position requires a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on content creation to engage diverse audiences and advance WRI’s mission effectively. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with People Centres of Excellence, Country People Leads, and core communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and a people-centered approach across all communication channels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of a global People communications strategy that aligns with WRI’s values and culture.
Define and maintain a cohesive People brand identity, including voice, tone, and visuals across various countries and staff levels.
Strengthen WRI's employer brand to reflect its values and culture in talent attraction and retention efforts.
Advise the Chief People Officer and People leadership on strategic messaging and internal positioning.
Provide communications support for the Chief People Officer, including speech writing, presentation development, and social media strategy.
Create compelling narratives and storytelling to highlight People priorities and impact.
Position People as a trusted strategic partner through clear and consistent messaging.
Maintain a communications calendar tied to key internal and external people-related events.
Collaborate across WRI functions, programs, and offices to integrate the People narrative. 1
Ensure staff across all locations understand how to access People services, policies, and benefits. 1
Translate complex People policies and processes into staff-friendly content in collaboration with technical experts. 1
Partner with Country People Leads to localize messaging and adapt delivery. 1
Promote consistent communication standards in country offices. 1
Manage updates to intranet pages and self-service resources. 1
Partner closely with Global Communications, IT, and Operations teams to ensure alignment and coordination. 1
Support the Center of Excellence in launching new initiatives through tailored internal campaigns. 1
Represent People communications in cross-functional working groups and contribute to organization-wide messaging. 1
Work with the Chief People Officer and Internal Communications team to foster two-way communication for greater transparency and connection among WRI colleagues. 1
Lead communications for major people-related change initiatives, such as digital system implementations and policy shifts. 2
Craft messaging that supports mindset shifts and behavior change among staff and managers. 2
Develop accessible toolkits, FAQs, visuals, and digital content to clarify complex changes and drive engagement. 2
Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to ensure timely and people-centered communications and training efforts.
Required Qualifications:
A qualification in communications, journalism, or a related subject is required. Relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Proven communications experience, including leading internal communications, preferably in a complex, global organization.
Experience in designing and managing communications for enterprise systems or large change initiatives.
Ability to draft narratives and tell compelling stories.
An inclusive approach that promotes diversity and equity.
Experience in managing People campaigns and translating complex data and policies into engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated leadership and a track record of creating and implementing brand and communications strategies.
Proficiency in producing compelling written documents, editing, speechwriting, and proofreading.
Familiarity with digital channels and strategies, as well as People processes and systems. 1
Familiarity with visual communications, intranet content, and HRIS platforms.
Educational Background: A qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field is essential for this position. Candidates with relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree. The educational background should ideally provide a strong foundation in communication strategies, media relations, and organizational communication.
Experience: Candidates should possess substantial communications experience, particularly in leading internal communications within a complex, global organization. Experience in managing communications for enterprise systems, such as Workday or SAP, and overseeing large change initiatives is highly desirable. The ability to draft narratives and tell compelling stories is crucial, along with a proven track record of creating and implementing effective brand and communications strategies.

Additional Notes: This is a hybrid position requiring 8 days per month in the office, with the option to be based in either the WRI Europe office in London or The Hague. The potential salary for this position varies based on location: €68,000 – €86,000 if based in the Netherlands, and £54,000 - £68,000 if based in the UK.
