Job Overview:
In this full-time, maximum term role, which extends through to the end of June 2027 with the possibility of extension, the Family Support Worker will be a key member of the Tenancy Support for Children and Families (TSCF) case management team. The primary focus of this position is to provide family and child-focused support and services to families with children aged 0-18 who are living in social housing and facing vulnerable tenancy situations. The role involves responding to crises, stabilizing tenancies, and preventing homelessness by equipping families with the necessary tools to thrive. The Family Support Worker will engage in assertive community outreach, conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and case management, while also facilitating partnerships and referrals to external services as needed. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable families and children, and who are committed to working within a child-centered, strengths-based framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Family Support Worker will be responsible for delivering quality services to families with children aged 0-18 years who are at risk of homelessness. Key duties include conducting assertive community outreach through home visits, performing risk assessments, developing safety plans, and managing cases effectively. The role also involves providing practical support to stabilize tenancies, which includes collaborating with real estate agencies and housing providers. Additionally, the Family Support Worker will be tasked with facilitating and developing external partnerships, making necessary referrals, and carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to ensure the effectiveness of the services provided.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must demonstrate experience in case management and possess knowledge of relevant legislation. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families is essential, along with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by these communities. Strong report writing, analytical, and evaluation skills are required, including the ability to collate and analyze data. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is preferred, although significant experience in a similar service may be considered as an alternative qualification.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, community services, or a related field. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical framework and understanding of the complexities involved in working with vulnerable families and children.

Experience:
The position requires demonstrated experience in case management, particularly with families facing multiple and challenging barriers. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively with clients in vulnerable situations, showcasing their ability to navigate complex social issues and provide appropriate support.

Languages:

Additional Notes:

The role is classified at Award rate salary Level 4.1, currently set at $44.58 per hour, along with full salary packaging benefits.
