Job Overview:
The Driver position is located in the Resident Coordinator's Office in Apia, Samoa, and reports directly to the Resident Coordinator Team Leader. The primary function of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and goods. The Driver is expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism and service, demonstrating a commitment to the UN's values and mission. This includes not only driving but also managing vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing logistical support as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to interact effectively with officials and visitors, reflecting the UN's commitment to client orientation and service excellence. The Driver will also be responsible for logging vehicle usage and ensuring that all necessary documentation is maintained accurately.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, making deliveries of parcels and documents between the UN office and other institutions, handling minor purchases and urgent requests from local suppliers, facilitating airport customs and immigration formalities for official personnel, maintaining the assigned vehicles by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, performing minor repairs, logging official trips and vehicle usage, ensuring compliance with safety regulations in case of accidents, and applying good judgment in all assignments. The Driver may also be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Resident Coordinator Team Leader, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the team as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid National Driver's License and demonstrate a safe driving record. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and a relevant first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver, with experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and motorized vehicles. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable, showcasing an understanding of the UN's operational environment and standards.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with a relevant first-level university degree may be considered in lieu of two years of required experience, indicating that educational qualifications can be flexible depending on the applicant's overall experience and skills.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of progressive responsible experience as a driver, emphasizing the importance of a safe driving record and familiarity with various vehicle types. Candidates should have experience in driving in diverse conditions and be able to demonstrate their ability to navigate safely and efficiently. Experience with the United Nations or similar international organizations is considered an advantage, as it reflects an understanding of the unique challenges and expectations within this context.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas, indicating a solid understanding of the language.

Additional Notes:
This is a Fixed Term position, initially open for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval. The appointment is on a local basis, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Samoa. Selected candidates from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses.
