Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in developing and updating community information packs and training materials that are essential for enhancing local knowledge and skills in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development. This position requires the creation of user-friendly and community-appropriate training materials that will be utilized by staff in various sectors, including agriculture, social protection, education, and health and nutrition. The consultant will also be responsible for developing comprehensive reference materials for farming households, covering a range of topics such as climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, food safety, and nutrition integration. The overarching goal is to empower communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve their agricultural practices and food security, ultimately contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including conducting a thorough needs assessment to identify the specific training needs of target communities, engaging with stakeholders to gather insights, and developing detailed training manuals for each specified topic. The consultant will create visual aids, interactive materials, and user-friendly digital storage options for all training documents. Additionally, the consultant will ensure that all materials are contextually appropriate and sensitive to local cultures, incorporating local examples and case studies. Pilot testing of the training materials will be conducted in selected communities, with feedback collected from participants to refine and improve the materials. The final deliverables will include comprehensive reports on the needs assessment, training manuals, and finalized training package materials ready for dissemination.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree or higher in agricultural sciences, nutrition, or a related field. Proven experience in developing training materials for community-based programs is essential, along with expertise in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development. A strong understanding of adult learning principles and participatory training methods is required, as well as experience in conducting needs assessments and pilot testing. Excellent communication and writing skills are also necessary for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master's degree or higher in agricultural sciences, nutrition, or a related field. This advanced education will provide the necessary theoretical foundation and practical knowledge needed to develop effective training materials and engage with community stakeholders.
Experience: Candidates should have proven experience in developing training materials specifically for community-based programs. This experience should include a strong background in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development, demonstrating the ability to create impactful educational resources that address the needs of diverse communities. Familiarity with conducting needs assessments and pilot testing of training materials is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the communities being served.
