Job Overview:
The internship at WRI Europe offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience within an international NGO focused on climate action and environmental sustainability. Interns will work closely with the WRI Europe team, particularly in engaging with European Union institutions. The role involves supporting various functions across four key pillars: engagement, policy, partnerships, and funding. Interns will assist in outreach efforts to EU organizations and partners, organize meetings, and prepare essential materials such as presentations and briefs. Additionally, the internship includes conducting research and analysis on EU funding opportunities, including grants and tenders, and supporting internal coordination around these opportunities. Interns will also provide briefings on relevant EU policy developments that align with WRI's priorities, thus gaining valuable insights into the collaboration between the EU and NGOs in driving impactful development outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks primarily focused on partnerships and development, which will account for 80% of their workload. This includes monitoring and analyzing relevant EU policy developments to inform WRI's engagement strategies, drafting briefings for global programs and international offices regarding EU political, economic, and development-related updates, and strengthening internal coordination and knowledge-sharing on EU engagement. Interns will also assist in developing social media content related to EU policies and manage partnerships related to the EU, such as the Systems Transformation Hub. Maintaining and updating partner contact information to enhance strategic collaboration is also part of the role. The remaining 20% of the internship will involve supporting meetings management, including drafting briefings and handling other external communication tasks, as well as assisting with logistical preparations for conferences, workshops, and visits from high-level WRI staff, along with other administrative tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently pursuing a degree in international relations, environmental studies, development studies, political science, or a related field, with a preference for graduate programs. A good understanding of how EU institutions operate is essential. Additionally, interns must be registered in a study program at a Dutch college or university for the entire duration of the internship, ensuring compliance with local regulations regarding internships.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a relevant degree program such as international relations, environmental studies, development studies, political science, or a related field. A graduate program is preferred, indicating that candidates should ideally be pursuing advanced studies in these areas to ensure they possess the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not explicitly required, a good understanding of the workings of EU institutions is essential. This implies that candidates should have some familiarity with EU policies and frameworks, which can be gained through academic coursework or previous internships in related fields. The internship is designed for students, so practical experience may not be a strict requirement, but any relevant experience will be beneficial.

Languages:
The job does not specify mandatory languages, but proficiency in English is likely essential given the international nature of the organization and the role. Additional languages, particularly those relevant to EU member states, would be considered advantageous and could enhance a candidate's suitability for the position.

Additional Notes:
This internship is a 6-month position starting on 22 September 2025, based at the WRI Europe office in The Hague, with some flexibility to work from home. Interns will receive a reimbursement of 700 euros per month based on full-time working hours, which are set at 32 hours per week. Applicants are required to submit a resume and cover letter by the application deadline of 27 July 2025, and they must apply through the WRI Careers portal to be considered for the position. Candidates are encouraged to link to any relevant blogs, projects, or other work that demonstrates their suitability for the internship.
