Job Overview: The Experienced Education Officer will play a crucial role in the implementation and monitoring of education-related project activities in the field. This position requires a proactive individual who is not only passionate about education but also has the ability to manage and supervise a team of Education Assistants. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that all activities align with NRC's policies, donor requirements, and project documents. The role involves preparing plans based on proposals and budgets, implementing activities, and preparing regular reports to capture project progress. The Education Officer will also represent NRC in coordination with government authorities and education stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration and communication. This position is vital for enhancing the educational opportunities for displaced individuals and communities in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Experienced Education Officer include:
Supervising the implementation and monitoring of project activities in the field.
Managing Education Assistants and reporting progress to supervisors.
Planning and implementing program activities in compliance with project log frames, budgets, and work plans.
Developing and applying work plans, procurement plans, and spending plans to ensure timely implementation of project activities.
Contributing to internal and external reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Identifying capacity development needs for Education staff and contractors, providing training and follow-up mentoring.
Overseeing the work of Education Assistants and providing technical and administrative support.
Supervising data collection, ensuring all necessary documents and means of verification are captured and stored electronically.
Overseeing recruitment and procurement processes in coordination with relevant units. 1
Engaging and coordinating with government authorities, communities, and other organizations involved in education activities. 1
Ensuring effective coordination with NRC’s various units such as Shelter, WASH, and Protection. 1
Conducting needs assessments and collecting documentation for project activities. 1
Performing any other tasks relevant to the position as requested by the line or technical manager.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
At least two years of experience working with a national or international NGO or United Nations agency in the Northeast of Nigeria.
At least one year of experience managing program staff and implementation in the field, with a preference for experience in education.
A Bachelor’s degree in education, development, management, or a related field is required, with a Master’s degree preferred.
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
Understanding of data collection, analysis, and documentation of results.
Experience in mobilizing communities and interacting with government education authorities.
Strong analytic and computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, development, management, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it may provide additional insights and skills necessary for the role. The educational background should equip the candidate with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively manage educational programs and initiatives in a humanitarian context.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience working with NGOs or UN agencies, specifically in the Northeast of Nigeria. Candidates should have at least one year of experience managing program staff and implementing educational programs in the field. This experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of working in humanitarian settings and for effectively leading a team to achieve project goals.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and oral. Additionally, proficiency in Hausa is highly desirable, as it is commonly spoken in the region. Knowledge of other local languages would be an advantage, as it can facilitate better communication with the communities served by NRC.
