Job Overview:

The role requires a proactive approach to managing logistics projects and operational activities, ensuring that food commodities systems are efficiently managed and that food assistance reaches those in need without delays. The officer will collect and analyze data to recommend improvements in local logistics operations, advise on logistics management structures, and ensure compliance with local authorities regarding cargo clearance. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity of WFP's supply chain and ensuring that food assistance is delivered in a timely and effective manner. The Logistics Officer will also collaborate with various teams to align initiatives and contribute to market assessments, enhancing the overall efficiency of supply chain activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: overseeing logistics operations and providing technical guidance to WFP staff and partners; supporting day-to-day logistics activities to ensure effective food assistance delivery; collecting and analyzing logistics data to improve local operations; advising on logistics management and staffing levels; ensuring proper documentation for cargo clearance; liaising with cargo superintendent companies; building relationships with logistics colleagues; collaborating with cross-functional teams; planning and leading market assessments; performing market analysis and supply chain mapping; supporting procurement processes; monitoring retailer performance; providing timely reporting and analysis of supply chain activities; contributing to preparedness actions; and building partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, and the private sector to ensure coordinated food assistance delivery.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Supply Chain Management, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be acceptable. The position requires foundational knowledge of logistics and supply chain management, as well as familiarity with humanitarian and development contexts. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to work under challenging conditions, including late hours and weekends as necessary due to emergencies.
Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Supply Chain Management, Economics, Business Administration, or Logistics. A first university degree may be considered if accompanied by significant relevant work experience. Continuous professional development through training and courses in logistics and supply chain management is also beneficial.
Experience:
The Logistics Officer role requires at least one year of relevant professional experience for candidates with an advanced university degree. For those with a first university degree, a minimum of three years of relevant experience in procurement, supply chain management, logistics, or related fields is necessary. Experience with public procurement processes, international organizations, or humanitarian operations is highly desirable, as is familiarity with ERP systems and procurement policies.
Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within diverse teams and with local partners.
