The position involves conducting an inventory of soft corals in the Gulf of Aqaba as part of the 'Enhancing Coastal Ecosystem Biodiversity and Resilience in the Gulf of Aqaba Jordan (GoA-J)' project. This project aims to enhance the biodiversity and resilience of coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Aqaba, which is crucial for maintaining ecological balance and supporting local communities. The contractor will be responsible for collecting data on soft coral species, assessing their health and distribution, and contributing to the overall understanding of the marine ecosystem in the region. The role requires a thorough understanding of marine biology, particularly coral ecology, and the ability to work in a field environment, often under challenging conditions. The contractor will also be expected to collaborate with local stakeholders and contribute to reports and presentations based on their findings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it demonstrates advanced knowledge and research capabilities in marine ecosystems.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in marine research, particularly in conducting field surveys and data collection related to coral ecosystems. Experience working in the Gulf of Aqaba or similar marine environments is highly desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes:
This position is for a contract duration of three months, with deliverables expected at the end of the assignment. The role is classified as an individual contractor position, and candidates are encouraged to submit their proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal. The deadline for submission is set for May 20, 2025, at 5:00 AM New York time. Compensation and benefits will be discussed upon selection, and the position may involve travel within the Gulf of Aqaba region.
