Job Overview: The role of the intern focuses on addressing the pressing issue of air pollution in India, which has emerged as a significant concern for urban environments. WRI India is actively working with ten major cities to mitigate emissions at their sources, such as construction sites and unpaved roads, while also supporting these cities in achieving the goals set forth by the National Clean Air Programme through the Accelerator for Clean Air Actions (ACAAS) Program. The intern will engage in air quality monitoring, mapping pollution hotspots, and analyzing emissions data across multiple cities. This position is ideal for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in air quality management and contribute to meaningful urban transformation initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are crucial to the success of the air quality management initiatives. Key responsibilities include conducting primary surveys within the city to gather data on air pollution sources and identifying issues across various sectors. The intern will also perform air pollution hotspot mapping and data analysis through site visits and data collection. Supporting the team in field monitoring activities, including measurement, instrumental deployment, and data collection, is essential. The intern will assist in organizing events and capacity-building activities, contribute to technical report and paper writing, and help with project documentation, including reports, presentations, and summaries. Additionally, the intern will support team coordination and communication during field activities and assist with logistics for major events and workshops. Other tasks may arise as needed to meet project goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a Master’s degree or be pursuing one in a relevant Science subject such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or Urban Design. Experience or a strong interest in air quality monitoring is highly encouraged. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Strong writing and communication skills are essential, along with being organized and detail-oriented. Proficiency in GIS and Microsoft 360 is preferable, and familiarity with data analysis and presentation tools like PowerBI, MATLAB, and Python is desirable. The candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural, global workplace and possess strong surveying and analytical capabilities. Willingness to travel locally when necessary is also required. Interns are expected to bring their own laptops and arrange for internet access in the field for basic communication.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or Urban Design is required. Candidates who are currently pursuing their Master’s degree in these areas are also encouraged to apply, provided they have relevant experience or a strong interest in air quality monitoring.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience or a keen interest in air quality monitoring. While specific years of experience are not mandated, the ability to demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge in the field will be beneficial. Additional Notes: The internship offers a stipend of 25,000 INR per month and is expected to last between 2 to 3 months.
