Job Overview:
The internship at the Bavarian Africa Office is designed for students who are eager to engage in international cooperation and development. The office, which reports to the Bavarian State Chancellery, aims to establish and expand long-term partnerships between Bavarian and African actors in various fields, including economic cooperation, scientific collaboration, and development initiatives. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to significant projects that impact the African continent, particularly in the regions of Ethiopia, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia, as well as participate in pan-African initiatives involving the African Union. The internship period is set from September 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, and is a full-time position, allowing interns to immerse themselves in the work of the office and gain valuable experience in international relations and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the monitoring and further development of cooperation formats between Bavarian and African actors; conducting research and reporting on political and socio-economic developments in the specified African countries and at the African Union level; assisting in the organization of events hosted by the Africa Office; and helping to conceive and prepare delegation trips for the Bavarian State Government and the Bavarian State Parliament to Africa. These responsibilities will provide interns with hands-on experience in international cooperation and the workings of governmental partnerships.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be students with excellent academic performance and an international orientation. They should possess very good written and oral communication skills in both German and English. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Amharic is considered an advantage. Practical experience in an international professional context is also required, along with a clearly expressed interest in cooperation with the African continent. Interns should demonstrate the ability to work independently and flexibly within an intercultural team across multiple locations, as well as exhibit reliability, discretion, and high motivation.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled as students or to have graduated no longer than six months prior to the start of the internship. This ensures that applicants are in a position to fully engage with the responsibilities of the internship while also benefiting from the experience as part of their educational journey.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, practical experience in an international professional context is highly valued. This could include internships, volunteer work, or other relevant experiences that demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage in international cooperation and development work.

Languages:
Proficiency in German and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Amharic is considered advantageous and may enhance the candidate's application.
