Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945, currently comprising 193 member states. The UN Development System, which includes various agencies and programs, works to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda. The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (RCO) play a crucial role in this mission by coordinating development efforts at the country level. The UN RCO in Maldives is led by an independent UN Resident Coordinator, who is the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System in the country. The office is focused on enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of UN operations to support national development priorities.

Job Overview:
The Partnerships Officer position is a fixed-term limited role located in the UN Resident Coordination Office in Male, Maldives. The incumbent will report to the Senior Development Coordination Officer and will be responsible for providing strategic support for the planning and coordination of UN Country Team (UNCT) partnerships. This includes developing and implementing the UN Partnership Strategy in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), monitoring and assessing the strategy, and identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships. The role also involves supporting resource mobilization efforts, engaging with various stakeholders, and integrating innovative approaches into partnership strategies to enhance the UN's engagement and effectiveness in achieving the SDGs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT partnerships, including the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy.
  • Monitor and assess the partnership strategy, identifying emerging opportunities and proposing adjustments as necessary.
  • Assist the Resident Coordinator and UNCT in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships, and suggest mitigation measures.
  • Prepare inputs on due diligence processes for potential investment and partnership opportunities.
  • Support the development of locally-tailored partnerships and resource mobilization strategies.
  • Contribute to dialogues with partners to improve development assistance policies.
  • Liaise and coordinate with UN entities at various levels to define UN business strategies.
  • Assist in the coordination of inter-agency teams and working groups.

  • Participate in joint resource mobilization efforts for the UNSDCF. 1
  • Monitor and analyze existing resource mobilization partnerships. 1
  • Assist in maintaining databases of current donors and their support. 1
  • Produce marketing materials to raise awareness about opportunities for working with the UN. 1
  • Contribute to building the UN brand through events and media. 1
  • Support knowledge management and capacity development initiatives. 1
  • Undertake activities to strengthen the capacity of UNCTs in mainstreaming SDG investment partnerships. 1
  • Document requirements and background information for data analysis.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of sustainable development theories and concepts. They should demonstrate the ability to identify and develop sources for data collection, undertake research, analyze data, and make recommendations. Professionalism, accountability, and effective planning and organizing skills are essential. The candidate should also show a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related area is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization, or development finance is required. Experience in supporting financing of SDGs is desirable, as is experience in data or related areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Dhivehi is required for this position. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.

Additional Notes:
This is a fixed-term limited position with an initial appointment for one year, subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is open to nationals of Maldives only, and candidates must be recruited within the country or commuting distance of the office.
