Job Overview:
The Head of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Belize is responsible for managing the office's resources and providing strategic support to the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UN Country Team (UNCT). This role involves leading the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through effective planning, programming, and partnerships. The incumbent will serve as a key adviser to the RC, ensuring that the office's work is of high quality and delivered in a timely manner. The position requires a strong understanding of sustainable development, strategic planning, and the ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder efforts to achieve development objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a proven knowledge of sustainable development theories and concepts, with the ability to identify strategic issues and opportunities. Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce reports leading to sound policy recommendations are essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, planning and organizing skills, teamwork, leadership, and sound judgment in decision-making. The ability to communicate effectively and negotiate is also crucial for this role.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Completion of programs in data analytics or business analytics is an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, sustainable development policy, and program development and management is required. Experience in multi-stakeholder coordination and UN interagency coordination is desirable. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing partnership and resource mobilization strategies, as well as knowledge management in development cooperation. Leadership and management experience is also required.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. A working knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable, and knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
Additional Notes:
This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to extension. The position requires staff members to be flexible and may involve periodic relocation to different duty stations. - Manage knowledge management and capacity development activities within the UN system.
- Ensure efficient management of the RCO, including resource allocation, performance monitoring, and staff management.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the office and across UN entities.
