The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) play a crucial role in this reform, led by an independent UN Resident Coordinator who represents the UN Secretary-General at the country level. The organization focuses on supporting countries in achieving their development priorities and the SDGs, emphasizing collaboration and communication across various sectors and stakeholders.
Job Overview: The Communications and Advocacy Officer is responsible for maintaining relationships with management, other communications specialists, and various stakeholders to facilitate effective communication strategies. This role involves gathering insights from media monitoring, implementing communications strategies, drafting narratives, and fostering relationships with media outlets. The officer will also coordinate press events, create compelling content, and develop communications campaigns that engage target audiences. Duties and Responsibilities:
Gather insights and analyze media monitoring data to inform communication strategies.

Plan and coordinate press conferences and media events.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, critical thinking, and creativity in content development. They should possess strong analytical skills and the ability to convey complex information effectively. A commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation is essential. Candidates should show pride in their work, be efficient in meeting commitments, and remain calm under pressure. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications, marketing, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing communications strategies is required. Candidates should have knowledge of risks to information integrity and experience in communicating complex matters to diverse audiences. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, with at least one year of relevant experience preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while 'knowledge of' indicates a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term limited position, initially for one year, with potential for extension based on funding and mandate availability. The position is open only to nationals of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Selected candidates will be granted a fixed-term appointment limited to the specified duration. If no suitable local candidates are found, nationals residing elsewhere may be considered, with the candidate responsible for relocation costs.
