Job Overview: The Associate Data Specialist position is integral to the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Brazzaville, where the incumbent will engage with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, NGOs, and technical staff, to enhance data management and analytics capabilities. This role involves the development and implementation of databases, data collection systems, and analytical tools that improve statistical efficiency and quality. The Associate Data Specialist will also be responsible for identifying trends and patterns in data, contributing to reports and dashboards, and supporting decision-making processes through effective data visualization. The position requires a proactive approach to data management, ensuring that the UN's data initiatives align with its strategic goals and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Implementing databases and data collection systems that enhance statistical efficiency and quality.
Analyzing and interpreting data trends using statistical methods.
Improving processes for data analytics tasks and maintaining databases.
Developing reports and dashboards to summarize findings for management.
Tracking progress on data initiatives and reporting on outcomes.
Creating data visualization outputs to support decision-making.
Assisting with data collection and initial analysis for project tasks.
Producing data products such as reports or newsletters.
Gathering business requirements across departments to support data-driven analysis. 1
Compiling data insights and preparing materials for stakeholder communications. 1
Staying updated on trends in data analytics best practices and technologies. 1
Supporting capacity-building activities for staff on data analytics. 1
Contributing to training sessions and workshops on data analytics. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong foundation in data management and analytics, with a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions. The ability to perform quality assurance on data analysis outputs is essential, along with skills in data validation and assessment of data accuracy. Familiarity with data storytelling and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, and R is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, or a related quantitative field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in data analysis and management. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in translating business needs into technical solutions and performing quality assurance on data outputs. Experience in assessing data accuracy and consistency through validation processes is also desirable. Familiarity with data visualization and storytelling techniques is an added advantage.
Languages: Fluency in French is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English is also required, and proficiency in another official UN language is considered an advantage. Fluency is defined as being able to read, write, speak, and understand the language at a high level, while knowledge indicates a confident ability in at least two of the four language skills.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term limited position with an initial appointment period of one year, subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is open exclusively to nationals of the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). Candidates residing outside the country may be considered only if no suitable local candidates are identified.
