Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the Global Project 'Partnerships for Sustainable Trade' based in Eschborn. This project promotes sustainable, efficient, simple, and transparent trade practices. By facilitating trade and utilizing digital solutions, the project aims to streamline customs procedures and reduce transaction costs. This initiative aligns with the BMZ strategy 'Digitalization for Development' and supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that benefit from a transparent trading system, ultimately contributing to job creation and prosperity. The project works on measurable reductions in time and costs associated with cross-border trade and assists developing and emerging countries in overcoming bureaucratic barriers and establishing efficient and secure customs processes, particularly through digital solutions. The foundation of this strategy is based on the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement, and the projects also support the implementation of trade facilitation measures within regional trade agreements, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), contributing to the 2030 Agenda and the global Sustainable Development Goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will support the team both content-wise and organizationally in trade-related and development policy issues. A significant part of your role will involve assisting project managers in preparing and managing specific measures in collaboration with partner countries. Your responsibilities will include: communication and coordination with partners in Germany and project countries; supporting the external presentation of activities and project results; conducting research and analysis on selected topics related to trade facilitation, such as ecological sustainability and the African Free Trade Area (AfCFTA); assisting in the preparation of new project countries, particularly in Least Developed Countries (LDCs), drafting project descriptions, and writing reports; organizing workshops, online events, and study trips; and other tasks such as knowledge management, contributing to project management tasks, creating presentations, and conducting internet and literature research. Additionally, you will gain insights into the processes and organization of GIZ and may participate in internal information events, online seminars, etc.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be studying economics, law, political science, or another social science related to development cooperation and/or trade. It is essential that applicants have engaged with topics related to international trade and/or collaboration with the private sector from a development policy perspective. Previous work experience, such as internships in an international context, is also required. Candidates should have a strong interest in processing information for professional public communication and be able to formulate content appropriately for target audiences. Proficiency in common MS Office programs is necessary, and prior experience in preparing and conducting online events and project management is advantageous. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both German and English are mandatory, and knowledge of French is a plus. Flexibility, quick adaptability to new topics, initiative, sociability, self-motivation, and good time management skills are important attributes for this role.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a degree program or in a training program that includes an internship as an integral part. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the last six months are also eligible to apply.
Experience: Candidates should have some prior work experience, preferably through internships in an international context, which will help them understand the dynamics of development cooperation and trade.
Languages: Proficiency in German and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered an asset and would be beneficial for the role.

The monthly stipend for interns is €2,205.04 (gross).
