Job Overview:
The Public Information Assistant will be responsible for providing specialized assistance in the production and delivery of multimedia communications products and services. This role involves serving as a focal point for information regarding UN activities that are open to the accredited press, coordinating the recording, coverage, and distribution of audio and video materials related to significant events. The assistant will also be involved in the planning and execution of live broadcasts, managing logistics, and ensuring that all technical arrangements are in place for media coverage. The position requires a proactive approach to liaising with news agencies and UN press officers to ensure effective communication and coverage of events. Additionally, the assistant will be tasked with archiving audio and video materials, overseeing the management of studio facilities, and assisting in the production and editing of various media projects. This role is vital for enhancing the visibility of the UN's work and ensuring that accurate information is disseminated to the public and media.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Public Information Assistant include:
  • Providing specialized assistance in the production and delivery of multimedia communications products and services.
  • Serving as an information focal point on UN activities for the accredited press, coordinating audio and video media recording, coverage, and distribution of important events.
  • Liaising with news agencies and UN press officers to provide advance notice of upcoming meetings, briefings, and special events, and ascertain coverage requirements.
  • Organizing and executing broadcast coverage of special events, coordinating with diverse partners and media to highlight key events.
  • Performing audio and video archiving as needed and overseeing the distribution of audio and video materials.
  • Assisting in the production, editing, and transmission of video/film projects and radio programs, including researching information sources and suggesting content ideas.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of live broadcasts, directing camera crews, and managing studio time and editing sessions.
  • Assisting in the electronic dissemination of programs and multimedia materials, maintaining and updating content on news web pages.
  • Providing guidance and training to junior staff and assisting with data collection and analysis for reporting purposes. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires at least seven years of experience in public communication, international broadcasting, or a related area. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may qualify with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience. Experience in video and audio production and editing is desirable, along with at least two years of experience managing recording studio operations. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of multimedia communication and possess the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. While specific job-related qualifications are not detailed, candidates with higher education degrees may have a competitive advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in public communication or international broadcasting.
