Job Overview:
The Field Health Specialist position is situated within the Health and Safety Directorate (HSD) of the World Bank Group, specifically under the Personal Health and Wellness Unit (PHW). This role is crucial for ensuring the health and safety of World Bank Group staff and their families, particularly in various country office locations. The incumbent will report to the Senior Field Health Specialist and will be responsible for delivering expert nursing services, conducting health risk assessments, and engaging in multi-disciplinary health and safety initiatives. The position requires a high level of independence and professional autonomy, as the specialist will be expected to balance technical and operational responsibilities effectively. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to promote health and wellness programs, manage medical evacuations, and provide guidance on occupational health and safety matters. The Field Health Specialist will also play a key role in addressing mental health and wellbeing issues, ensuring that staff receive appropriate support and resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Health Specialist will undertake a comprehensive range of duties, including but not limited to: delivering expert nursing services to staff and their families, conducting health risk assessments during missions, and participating in multi-disciplinary health and safety initiatives. The incumbent will manage medical evacuations by coordinating with medical professionals and ensuring that staff receive appropriate care when local services are inadequate. Additionally, the specialist will promote preventive health and wellness programs, engage staff in health education initiatives, and provide travel medicine services. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues on occupational health and safety assessments, participating in mission planning, and contributing to the development of health and safety policies. The Field Health Specialist will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and providing recommendations based on health assessments conducted during missions. Furthermore, the incumbent will engage in outreach efforts to promote mental health and wellbeing, ensuring that staff have access to necessary resources and support.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in nursing is mandatory, along with a valid and current Registered Nurse licensure or certification as per local public health authority requirements. The ideal candidate should have a strong theoretical foundation in nursing and health principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, and candidates should be able to take on 24-hour nurse call duty assignments. Experience working with international organizations and multicultural populations is preferred, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Master's degree in a relevant field, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in nursing.
