Job Overview:
This internship is part of the Nature Action Subprogramme at the UNEP's Regional Office for West Asia, located in Beirut. The intern will report directly to the Regional Coordinator for Nature Action and will be involved in supporting various activities related to biodiversity and ecosystems in the West Asia region. The role is designed to provide practical experience in environmental research and policy analysis, particularly in the context of biodiversity conservation and community engagement. The intern will engage in desk reviews, data collection, and research activities that contribute to the overarching goals of the Nature Action subprogramme.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: conducting research on national policies and legislation related to biodiversity and ecosystems in the West Asia region; supporting data collection on biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as transboundary issues related to biodiversity conservation and wildlife; collecting case studies and best practices of community engagement in biodiversity conservation; conducting literature reviews and research on issues such as the illegal killing of migratory birds and pollutants affecting their habitats; assisting in drafting advocacy briefs and awareness materials; developing reports, presentations, and public awareness content based on research findings; conducting outreach and community events; maintaining databases and records of campaign activities; and performing other tasks as assigned by the Regional Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as environmental sciences, business or public administration, social science, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, or related disciplines. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic programme must be provided with the application.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. The educational background should ideally be in environmental sciences, business or public administration, social science, environmental law, or a related field that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have a strong academic background in a relevant field of study. This internship is particularly suited for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in environmental research and policy analysis, and who are eager to contribute to biodiversity conservation efforts.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is essential for the tasks involved in the internship. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

This internship is expected to last for a duration of three months and is unpaid. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization prior to starting the internship.
