Job Overview:
The Migration Health Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Lagos and Abuja. This role involves performing medical examinations, collecting samples, administering vaccinations, and managing TB treatment among other health-related duties. The nurse will also provide information to migrants regarding the health assessment process and ensure proper documentation and follow-up. The position requires adherence to health assessment protocols and maintaining high standards of care throughout the migration process. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective health services for migrants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily nursing activities in the MHAC, including medical examinations, sample collection, and vaccinations.
  • Provide detailed information to migrants about the health assessment process and necessary treatments.
  • Ensure accurate identification and follow-up of applicants through comprehensive history taking and biodata collection.
  • Implement health assessment checklists and maintain universal precautions.
  • Verify proper transportation of medical samples to laboratories.
  • Manage the MHAC pharmacy and medical supplies.
  • Offer pre and post-counseling on TB and HIV.
  • Prepare administrative reports and updates.
  • Assist in planning mobile missions as needed. 1
  • Perform medical escort duties to ensure continuity of care. 1
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with partners for effective information sharing. 1
  • Collect and report statistical data as required. 1
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid nursing license to practice in Nigeria and demonstrate a strong clinical background. They should have excellent technical skills, particularly in phlebotomy, and experience in TB management, communicable diseases, and public health. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams are essential. Candidates should also have a good understanding of patient safety and infection control principles.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution is required. The educational institution must be recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A valid nursing license is mandatory for practice in the country of duty station.

Experience:
Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience, while those with a Diploma should have at least five years. Experience in emergency care, mass immunizations, and laboratory testing is advantageous. Proven clinical expertise and knowledge of nursing principles are essential for this role.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is required, along with a working knowledge of at least one additional UN language such as Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, or Chinese. Fluency in the local language of Nigeria is also necessary for effective communication with patients.
