Job Overview:
The Protection Project Manager for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of DRC’s GBV sector projects in Sittwe, Rakhine State. This role involves direct management of relevant sector staff and ensuring the quality and coherence of project interventions in line with DRC’s overall protection strategy. The manager will coordinate project activities, monitor progress, and ensure timely and high-quality deliverables. The position requires strong leadership skills to guide the GBV team and to engage with various stakeholders, including donors and government counterparts. The manager will also be responsible for developing operational tools and training modules to enhance project implementation and effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the GBV Project Manager include:
  • Project Management and Leadership: Coordinate, plan, and monitor GBV project activities; ensure high-quality sector interventions; lead GBV projects with timely deliverables; formalize project-related operational tools; provide input for donor reports; manage project budgets and financial compliance.
  • Program Development, Strategy, and External Relations: Represent DRC in GBV sector meetings; oversee knowledge sharing; drive program development and proposal writing; ensure adaptive programming in response to emergencies; integrate GBV with other protection programs.
  • Accountability and Reporting: Monitor accountability initiatives; ensure compliance with reporting requirements and DRC policies; document the impact of activities.
  • People Management: Lead and manage the GBV team; provide mentoring and capacity development; conduct on-the-job training tailored to staff needs.
  • Decision Making: Make significant decisions regarding the child protection team’s functions and resource expenditure; manage performance and development of direct reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field such as gender studies, nursing, counseling/mental health, or social sciences, along with evidence of further specialist training. A minimum of 4 years of experience in NGO projects, particularly in managing or leading protection projects, is required. At least 2 years of proven management experience and competence in people management are essential. Candidates should have experience in producing high-quality technical materials, excellent communication skills for external audiences, and experience working in conflict contexts or humanitarian responses. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other local languages is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as gender studies, nursing, counseling/mental health, or social sciences. Additional specialist training in relevant areas is highly desirable, as it demonstrates a commitment to professional development and expertise in the field of gender-based violence and protection.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of experience in NGO projects, with a focus on managing or leading protection projects. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in a managerial role, demonstrating strong people management skills. Experience in producing high-quality technical materials, such as training materials and strategic documents, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in conflict contexts or humanitarian responses, as well as experience with monitoring and evaluation processes.

Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other local languages is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The successful applicant will receive a DRC Regular contract, which includes a 3-month probation period. The contract is renewable based on funding and performance. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment, and the position is classified within Employment Band F, which indicates a management level role. Candidates must be able to work and be based in Sittwe, Rakhine State.
