Job Overview:
The Consultant Moderator will play a crucial role in facilitating Session 6 of the Arab Forum for Equality, titled 'What the experts say.' This session is designed to engage global experts on the topic of inequality and its implications for social protection. The moderator will be responsible for ensuring that the discussion remains focused, engaging, and relevant to the audience. This involves managing the flow of questions, guiding the conversation to avoid contentious topics, and ensuring that speakers provide concise yet comprehensive answers. The moderator's goal is to foster a rich deliberation on how social protection can effectively reduce various forms of inequality, drawing on the expertise of the speakers and the insights of the audience. The position requires a deep understanding of social protection systems and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including political leaders and experts from various fields.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Engaging with session speakers prior to the forum to understand their areas of expertise and the topics they can discuss.
  • Developing initial questions to facilitate discussion in case audience participation is low.
  • Gaining a foundational understanding of inclusive social protection systems to effectively moderate the session.
  • Moderating Session 6 of the Arab Forum for Equality, ensuring a smooth and productive dialogue among participants.
  • Conducting at least one interview with the ESCWA media team to provide insights for their inequality initiatives. These responsibilities require a proactive approach and the ability to adapt to the dynamics of the forum.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in political science, social studies, development studies, media, or related fields. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in the media sector is required. Strong communication and moderation skills are essential, as the consultant will be engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders, including global leaders and experts. Candidates must demonstrate their ability to facilitate discussions effectively and manage complex conversations.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as political science, social studies, development studies, media, or related areas is mandatory. Candidates are required to submit a copy of their educational qualifications as part of the application process. Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in the media sector. Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations and ESCWA. Additionally, knowledge of French is beneficial but not mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
