Job Overview:
The Head of Operations will play a critical role in overseeing the operational aspects of the organization’s projects in Sudan. This position requires a strategic thinker who can manage resources efficiently while ensuring that all operations align with the organization’s mission and objectives. The Head of Operations will be responsible for developing operational strategies, managing logistics, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. This role also involves liaising with various stakeholders, including government entities, local communities, and international partners, to facilitate smooth operations and enhance program delivery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operations management, with a focus on humanitarian or development contexts, and will be expected to lead a team of professionals to achieve operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of logistics and supply chain management for all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Manage the operational budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
  • Lead and mentor a team of operational staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with program managers to ensure that operational support meets the needs of project implementation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders.
  • Monitor and evaluate operational performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Prepare and present operational reports to senior management and other stakeholders. 1
  • Ensure that all operational activities are conducted in a safe and secure manner, adhering to health and safety standards.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment and adapt to changing circumstances.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, international relations, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or equivalent qualification is preferred, particularly in areas related to operations management or humanitarian assistance.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in operations management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience working in Sudan or similar contexts is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the region.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.
