Job Overview: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at ACAPS will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial functions of the organization, particularly in light of its recent expansion and transition towards greater independence. This position is designed for a seasoned financial professional who can quickly identify areas for improvement within existing financial systems and processes. The CFO will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for ACAPS' global financial operations, ensuring effective communication of financial information to the CEO and the ACAPS Consortium. The role requires a dynamic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses strong emotional intelligence to build effective relationships across teams. The CFO will also be involved in change management initiatives to establish new financial functions and guide the organization through its transition.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CFO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will be a key member of the Senior Management Team. The primary responsibilities include:
Providing overall strategic leadership for ACAPS' financial functions, ensuring effective communication of financial results and recommendations.
Leading and supervising the finance team, which includes staff located in various international offices.
Supporting the development and implementation of ACAPS's strategic objectives and ensuring compliance with internal policies and donor requirements.
Identifying and implementing new financial systems and processes to ensure full financial control and sustainable growth.
Managing cash flow and proposing innovative solutions for financial sustainability.
Developing mechanisms for monitoring financial goals and progress, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Building and leading high-performing teams, providing mentorship and guidance to team members, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field, with an MSc/MBA being a plus. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior financial role, such as CFO or Head of Finance, is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in the humanitarian sector. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is advantageous. Candidates should have in-depth knowledge of donor financial laws, auditing, and risk management practices, as well as experience working with institutional donors such as USAID, FCDO, and ECHO. Proficiency in financial management software and MS Office is essential, along with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. An advanced degree such as a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or a Master's in Finance is considered a plus, as it provides additional knowledge and skills relevant to the financial leadership role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in a senior financial position, such as Chief Financial Officer or Head of Finance. Experience within the humanitarian sector is highly desirable, as it provides insight into the unique financial challenges and requirements of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Proven experience in managing remote teams and implementing financial systems improvements is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in verbal and written English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required. Proficiency in languages commonly used in humanitarian contexts could enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role with a contract duration of 12 months, renewable subject to funding availability. The organization is open to sponsoring visa/work permits for the successful candidate.
