Job Overview:
The position is situated within the Regional Department Asia I, located in Eschborn, which serves as a crucial interface between German and international clients and projects in partner countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, ASEAN, the Pacific, and China. The department provides advisory services on development policy issues and portfolio development, managing various projects commissioned by several German ministries. The intern will support projects focused on environmentally friendly and climate-conscious transformation of the transport sector, particularly in collaboration with Chinese governmental institutions at both national and subnational levels. The role involves contributing to political and scientific dialogues on sustainable transport, overseeing scientific studies, and organizing workshops and events that promote integrated and climate-friendly urban mobility planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an intern in both the Regional Department Asia I and the Sustainable Mobility team, you will assist in various projects aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable mobility and enhancing the German-Chinese dialogue in this area. Your responsibilities will include maintaining national and international networks, preparing and conducting workshops and events, researching and compiling relevant information for commissioning ministries, and supporting the communication efforts of various projects through website and blog management. You will also provide advisory support to political actors at both national and subnational levels regarding climate protection in passenger and freight transport, assist in the implementation of integrated urban mobility concepts, and foster political dialogue on climate-friendly transport between Germany and China. Additionally, you will support the country management of the department throughout the project cycle, from preparation to execution and completion, and assist in creating presentations, reports, and documentation. Participation in internal meetings and strategic discussions with clients will also be part of your role, along with the opportunity to attend internal and external professional events organized by the company.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be enrolled in a degree program from the 5th semester onward in fields such as economics, sinology, political science, law, or technical and urban planning disciplines. Excellent written communication skills in both German and English are essential, along with strong analytical and organizational abilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high motivation and initiative, be a team player, and possess a structured, communicative, and expressive demeanor. Experience in social media management and external communication is preferred, as well as proficiency in standard IT applications, particularly MS Office. Familiarity with additional communication and design software is advantageous, and intercultural sensitivity and openness are important traits. Practical experience in international cooperation is a plus, and knowledge of Chinese is beneficial but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this internship includes being currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, specifically from the 5th semester onward. The program should either include an internship as an integral part of the curriculum or the candidate's graduation should not have occurred more than six months prior to the start of the internship.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of practical experience, ideally in the field of international cooperation or related areas. While specific years of experience are not mandated, any relevant internships or work experiences that demonstrate the candidate's capabilities in the field will be beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in German and English is mandatory, with excellent written expression required in both languages. Knowledge of Chinese is considered advantageous but is not a prerequisite for the position.

  • The monthly stipend for interns is €2,205.04 (gross).
