Since 2015, DRC has been actively involved in emergency response projects in Tanzania, particularly in the Kigoma Region, which borders Burundi, due to the Burundi refugee crisis. DRC's integrated projects focus on various sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection (including Community-Based Protection, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support, Gender-Based Violence, Child Protection, and Legal support), Shelter and Infrastructure, and Economic Recovery, aiming to support refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities effectively.

Job Overview:
The GBV Legal Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) receive appropriate legal assistance. This includes case management, legal counseling, legal awareness, and legal aid in court, specifically based in Nyarugusu Camp. The officer will work under the direct supervision of the GBV Team Leader and receive guidance from the Protection Coordinator and Protection Manager. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including law enforcement and judiciary bodies, to enhance access to justice for survivors. The officer will also coordinate with other GBV team members, DRC sectors, and implementing partners to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GBV Legal Officer will adhere to GBV guiding principles to ensure the safety and confidentiality of survivors and their children. Responsibilities include providing legal counseling to GBV survivors, facilitating legal access, coordinating with prosecutors, and monitoring the overall security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security risks faced by survivors. The officer will conduct training sessions on Tanzanian and international law related to women's and girls' protection from GBV, and disseminate legal information within the camp. Data collection and reporting are also key responsibilities, including tracking cases sent to court, ensuring proper documentation, and preparing reports for donors. Coordination with law enforcement and other service providers is essential to advocate for survivors' rights and ensure integrated approaches to justice.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in law from a recognized university. They should have at least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a humanitarian context. Strong interpersonal skills, respect for vulnerable populations, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate excellent writing, reporting, and analytical skills, along with organizational and planning abilities. Punctuality, self-motivation, and teamwork are crucial attributes for this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in law from a recognized university, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in legal principles and practices relevant to the role.

Experience:
The GBV Legal Officer should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. Experience in a humanitarian context is advantageous, as it equips the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of working with vulnerable populations and understanding the legal frameworks applicable in such settings.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Kirundi is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with certain refugee populations.
