Job Overview: The Principal Banker position within the Manufacturing and Services team at EBRD is a pivotal role that requires a deep understanding of project development and implementation in the manufacturing and services sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading project teams, managing complex transactions, and ensuring that projects are executed to the highest standards. This role involves not only technical expertise but also strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, as the Principal Banker will supervise junior staff and contribute to their professional development. The Principal Banker will focus on supporting EBRD’s activities in the Manufacturing and Services sector in SEMED, which includes countries in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Structuring and Execution: The Principal Banker will work as a senior project team member, leading the structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex transactions. This includes managing project teams, overseeing due diligence processes, and ensuring compliance with the Bank’s standards. The Principal Banker will also be responsible for ensuring that all transactions are completed within specified time frames and to a high standard.
Business Development: The role involves assisting with marketing and business development efforts to build a network of reputable market contacts. The Principal Banker will critically screen project proposals and collaborate with colleagues to identify viable investments that align with the Bank's mandate.
Policy Dialogue: The Principal Banker will contribute to policy dialogue initiatives, working closely with various units within the Bank to support national and project-level initiatives. This includes providing necessary documentation and participating in meetings to secure grants and technical cooperation funds.
Staff Management: The Principal Banker will assist in recruiting, training, and mentoring junior bankers, ensuring they are involved in all aspects of the project cycle. The role requires developing productive relationships within the organization and promoting the Bank’s behavioral competencies and corporate behaviors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Significant experience in the financial industry, particularly in development, investment, or commercial banking, is required. Candidates should have practical experience in complex transactions throughout the project life cycle, with strong quantitative skills and the ability to interpret financial information. Proficiency in credit analysis and understanding of accounting principles is essential. Strong stakeholder management, coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills are also required, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory for this position, while a Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Candidates with professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA will have an advantage. The educational background should ideally be complemented by practical experience in the financial sector, particularly in roles that involve project finance and investment analysis.
Experience: The position requires significant relevant experience in the financial industry, ideally from a development, investment, or commercial bank, private equity firm, or asset management firm. Candidates should have a proven track record of participating in complex transactions throughout the project life cycle, with experience in equity transactions considered a plus. The role demands strong quantitative skills and the ability to interpret financial data effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is also required. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and clients.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position with a regular contract type. The role is based in Casablanca, Morocco, and involves a commitment to working in a multicultural environment. The EBRD promotes flexible working arrangements, expecting employees to attend the office 50% of their working time.
