Job Overview:
The internship program at the American Heart Association offers college students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a non-profit health organization. This specific internship focuses on working with the Community Impact Team to promote a sustainable culture of health within diverse and vulnerable communities in the Greater New Orleans area. Interns will engage in practical training related to the Nation of Lifesavers initiative, which aims to improve survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Interns will learn to implement health education strategies, support nutrition security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security efforts, and create culturally competent resources to help manage cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and stroke. This role is designed to enrich the intern's academic and professional resume while making a meaningful impact in the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for assisting with the distribution of CPR kits and coordinating logistics for the distribution of AED subawards. They will provide guidance to partners, organize community health initiatives, and support priority issues such as hypertension control and nutrition insecurity. Interns will also assist with internal program evaluations, identify impactful stories for communication, manage a volunteer database, and explore collaboration opportunities with local organizations. Additionally, they will attend meetings and community events as needed, ensuring active participation in the organization's outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy, or a related field. They should possess excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, along with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and basic knowledge of Canva is required. Interns must have reliable transportation and a dependable Wi-Fi connection. A minimum availability of 20 hours per week during standard business hours is necessary, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the health challenges faced by diverse communities and for effectively contributing to the AHA's mission.

Experience:
While prior experience in a non-profit or health-related field is beneficial, it is not strictly required. The internship is designed to provide practical experience and training, making it suitable for students who are eager to learn and contribute to community health initiatives.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as effective communication is crucial for this role. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they align with the communities served in the Greater New Orleans area.

The compensation for this role is $23 per hour.
