Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position is integral to the UN Resident Coordinator Office in the Dominican Republic, focusing on enhancing the visibility and understanding of the UN's work in the country. The role involves establishing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society representatives, and media outlets, to effectively communicate the UN's initiatives and achievements. The Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that engage target audiences, raise awareness, and drive support for the UN's mission. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying communication opportunities and challenges, as well as the ability to create compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. The officer will also participate in crisis management efforts, ensuring that communication is clear and effective during sensitive situations. Overall, the role is designed to enhance the UN's impact and effectiveness in the Dominican Republic by fostering strong communication and collaboration with key partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to: providing insights and analysis from media monitoring to inform communication strategies; developing and implementing communication plans that engage target audiences; drafting narratives and messaging for various platforms; conducting outreach to media outlets; planning and coordinating press events; acting as a spokesperson when necessary; creating optimized content for different channels; producing communications products such as press releases and reports; developing strategic partnerships for communication efforts; engaging in outreach and advocacy campaigns; creating content for UN radio channels and podcasts; updating policy guidance related to strategic communications; serving as a focal point for policy reporting; monitoring and analyzing communication strategies; coordinating team activities and managing resources; and providing guidance to team members to foster a positive work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong skills in developing creative content and knowledge of digital design. They should demonstrate a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work. The ideal candidate will show professionalism, efficiency, and a strong sense of responsibility in meeting commitments and achieving results. They should be motivated by professional concerns, demonstrate persistence in overcoming challenges, and maintain composure in stressful situations. Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications is required. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, as well as the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences. Experience in leading collaborative efforts and coordinating with various stakeholders is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required for this position. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is rated as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
