Job Overview:
The Senior Driver position is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the UNFPA team in Papua New Guinea. The driver will be responsible for transporting UNFPA representatives, high-ranking officials, and visitors, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit. This role requires a strong sense of responsibility, discretion, and integrity, as the driver will often be in charge of transporting sensitive personnel and documents. The driver will also assist with general office administration, transport management, and clerical/logistics support, contributing to the overall efficiency of UNFPA's operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The position also involves maintaining the office vehicle in good condition, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing logistical support for UNFPA program activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing reliable and safe driving services for the UNFPA Representative, high-ranking officials, and visitors, ensuring timely arrival for meetings and events.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs formalities as required.
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of traffic regulations, road conditions, and safety protocols to ensure safe driving practices.
  • Keeping accurate daily vehicle logs and providing input for vehicle maintenance plans and reports to ensure cost-effective vehicle use.
  • Performing routine maintenance on the assigned vehicle, including minor repairs, oil changes, and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Ensuring that all necessary documents and supplies are available in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
  • Assisting office staff with administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and mail distribution as needed.
  • Providing logistical support for the clearance of UNFPA program supplies and acting as an alternate security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal person for the country office.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or senior management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a clean and valid national driver's license and have at least three years of work experience as a driver with a proven safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions is essential. Candidates should also have skills in minor vehicle repairs and a general understanding of office operations, including mail delivery. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while respecting cultural and religious diversity is crucial. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required, along with basic proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary level education. Candidates should have a solid understanding of driving protocols and office operations, which can be gained through practical experience and training.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of professional driving experience, with a focus on maintaining a safe driving record. Experience in an office environment, particularly in roles that involve administrative support and logistics, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its protocols can be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in the local language of Papua New Guinea is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of English, which is the UN language of the duty station. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
