Job Overview: The Economic Recovery Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of economic recovery activities within the Sahrawi Refugee Camps in Algeria. This position is under the direct guidance of the Base Manager and the supervision of the Economic Recovery Officer. The assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all economic recovery initiatives adhere to DRC and donor guidelines and standards. The role involves engaging with beneficiaries, conducting training sessions, and facilitating the distribution of grants, both in-kind and cash. The assistant will also be involved in monitoring and evaluation activities, providing administrative support, and coordinating with local stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the economic recovery program. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of the refugee camps.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Economic Recovery Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting all DRC economic recovery program activities in the Sahrawi Refugee Camps.
Acting as the main focal point for economic recovery field activities in a designated camp.
Identifying and mobilizing youth beneficiaries for the economic recovery program.
Planning and conducting various economic recovery training sessions for project beneficiaries across all five camps.
Assisting in the beneficiary selection process and ensuring fair distribution of grants.
Conducting regular monitoring and coaching visits to beneficiaries, addressing any issues that arise, and providing solutions.
Supporting monitoring and evaluation activities to assess the impact of the economic recovery program.
Contributing to the development and improvement of DRC Algeria’s recovery program and processes.
Providing necessary administrative and logistical support for project activities. 1
Coordinating field activities with relevant stakeholders and local authorities. 1
Supporting market studies and research, including data collection and socio-economic profiling of youth. 1
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess practical experience in project implementation and monitoring, ideally within local or international NGOs, UN agencies, or donor organizations. Essential qualifications include excellent communication and facilitation skills, proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic, and a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in economics, business management, community development, social science, or a related field. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to the values and mission of the Danish Refugee Council.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field such as economics, business management, community development, social science, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of economic recovery principles and practices.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have practical experience in project implementation and monitoring, particularly in contexts similar to those faced by refugees and displaced populations. Experience working in the Sahrawi refugee camps is considered a strong asset, as is experience engaging with youth in various capacities such as activism, advocacy, or community associations. This experience will enable the candidate to effectively support the economic recovery initiatives and engage with beneficiaries.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Spanish is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with certain beneficiaries or stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 9 months, and it is classified as a non-management role. The duty station is designated as unaccompanied and non-family, indicating that the position may not be suitable for candidates with dependents. The expected start date for this role is April 10, 202
