Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the Statistics Division at ECLAC in Santiago is designed to last between 3 to 5 months, depending on the office's needs. The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of the Division, focusing on research related to the importance of official statistics for democracy. The role involves tasks such as compiling and geocoding territorial units from the 2020 population censuses, georeferencing minor administrative divisions and cities, and compiling national geostatistical frameworks for the region. Additionally, the intern will collaborate in developing web mapping applications to deploy subnational geospatial information, contributing to the overall mission of ECLAC in enhancing statistical data usage for policy-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Compiling and geocoding territorial units from the 2020 round of population censuses, ensuring accurate representation of demographic data.
  • Georeferencing minor administrative divisions and cities as identified in the DEPUALC database of the Population Division - CELADE of ECLAC, which involves mapping these areas accurately for statistical purposes.
  • Compiling and documenting national geostatistical frameworks for the region, which will serve as a foundational resource for future statistical analysis and policy development.
  • Collaborating in the development of web mapping applications that will facilitate the deployment of subnational geospatial information, enhancing accessibility and usability of data for stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme or have completed such programs. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the application.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Candidates should have a field of study that is closely related to the internship, such as statistics, geography, social sciences, or a related discipline.
